Questions by category

Participation & eligibility

Who can participate in YFS?

YFS currently welcomes young participants ages 3–18 and, for selected editions, adults ages 19–50 (two groups: 19–35 and 36–50). Current participation opportunities and age groups are shown on each show page.

What can the YFS experience include?

Depending on the edition, the experience can include rehearsal and runway preparation, fitting, styling, backstage support, the live runway, professional photography and video, and post-show moments. The show page has the most current details for each edition.

Is YFS hiring or paying participants as models?

YFS participation is a fashion-show experience, not a job application. Applying to participate does not mean YFS is hiring or paying the participant as a model.

Are there selection criteria like weight, size, height or appearance?

There are no beauty or body standards — YFS welcomes kids of all shapes, sizes and backgrounds. The only practical factor is height, so that a fitting outfit is available. Applying early gives the best chance of matching your child’s size before spots fill up.

Are scouting or brand opportunities guaranteed?

No. Agencies, scouts, brands and other fashion-industry professionals may take part in YFS editions, but participation does not guarantee selection, representation, bookings or contracts.

Young participants 3–18

Does my child need previous modeling experience?

No. First-time and experienced participants can apply, and many children walk the runway for the first time with YFS. Rehearsals and show preparation are part of the YFS experience, and the team supports every child through rehearsals, backstage and the show.

Could this hurt my child’s self-esteem?

YFS is not a beauty contest or competition — there are no winners, no judging and no pressure. Every child is celebrated equally and walks the runway in front of a supportive audience that cheers for everyone. Many families find it becomes a real confidence boost, even for the shyest children.

Should my child participate if we’re not planning a modeling career?

Yes. Whether your child dreams of modeling or simply wants to try something new, the experience helps build confidence, self-expression, teamwork and stage presence — skills that stay with them whatever path they choose. Like skating or skiing, you don’t need to go pro to enjoy it.

Will this help my child’s future portfolio or education?

Every participant receives a YFS Certificate of Participation. Creative extracurricular activities like a live fashion show can be a meaningful addition to applications for schools and programs that value confidence, public presence and creative development.

Adults 19–50

Can adults participate?

YFS adult participation has two age groups: 19–35 and 36–50. Adult opportunities are shown separately from the young participant experience. Explore adult participation

Application & next steps

What happens after I apply?

Applying is the first step. The YFS team reviews the application and follows up with the participant or parent about availability and next steps. An application does not automatically confirm participation.

How long is registration open?

Registration for a city stays open until its participant spots are filled. Outfit sizes are matched to participants, so the widest choice of sizes is available early — applying early is recommended.

Can I apply before the next date in my city is announced?

Where applications are open, you can begin the application process even when the next edition date has not yet been announced.

Preparation & rehearsals

What happens before show day?

Confirmed participants receive preparation information for their edition. This can include rehearsal details, what to bring, brand or look requirements, event information and other show-day preparation.

Show day

Will my child be safe backstage?

Yes. The YFS team is responsible for your child from the moment they enter backstage until the show ends, with experienced staff supporting and supervising every step from fittings to the runway. To help children feel confident and connect with the team and other young models, parents are not allowed backstage during the event; a designated waiting area nearby lets you stay close.

Photos, video & the YFS app

How do photos and videos work?

Professional media is part of the YFS experience across previous editions. Exact photo, video and delivery details can vary by show and are shared with the current edition information.

Guests, travel & attendance

Can parents or guests attend the show?

Yes. Guest and attendance information is provided for each edition, and families can take red-carpet photos together after the show. If public ticketing is available, the show page shows the current ticket or attendance details.

If YFS runs in several cities, does my child need to take part in all of them?

No. Each participant takes part in one city. Apply for the location that works best for your family — or travel to another city if you prefer.

Payments & policies

How much does participation cost?

YFS does not publish participation pricing on the website. Current participation details are discussed through the YFS application and follow-up process.
